Rainy Day Reflections
Did you see the sky this morning? Probably not. Or at least probably not at the moment that I’m talking about. I know most people don’t like rainy days. It makes them lazy and mopey and completely un-motivated. I’ll be the first one to say that the best thing to do on a rainy day is stay in bed with a book or a loved one, but not before you take a look.
Rainy skies are some of the most inspiring moments on earth. From the cloudy “I think a storm is brewing” to the grey “it’s raining cats and dogs”, these skies are exciting! They are ever changing, constantly developing into something new. Sometimes it’s the shapes of the clouds, and sometimes it’s all about the color. Sunrise has got to be the best time for color, as the skies fade from dark and boding to grey and hopeful. Well, it is hopeful when the sun actually rises; one of these days, it just might not! Anything is possible! : )
This morning it was the layers. I mean the color was amazing, but when I think of the sky and the clouds my mind comes up with images of clouds fading to nothingness on a far horizon. This morning they had definite edges, like a streak of paint haphazardly splotched on a dark canvas. Perhaps the most amazing thing was that it was only in one relatively small section of sky. All around me were the hazy fading clouds, except this one spot, and in this one spot, the contrast between sky and cloud was the fantastic sort that makes you know, absolutely KNOW that one picture was painted for me.
Obviously there were other people driving to work at that same moment. Of course I’m just one small letter in the great novel of human history, but you can’t convince me that I’m wrong. I know there are people who would call that a coincidence and could explain the science behind the storm, but science only explains the miracles, and coincidence is a gift. Any other nay-sayers?
This morning I want to share my gift with you. This morning I want to remind you to not let “gloomy rainy days” create a negative atmosphere before you even get out of bed. When you wake up and hear the rain, get excited about the display that is being put on JUST FOR YOU! Not everyone sees the same moment, the same picture, not receives the same emotional response. That is a moment, a feeling, just for you. Share the picture in the clouds with someone else. Ask another to describe the amazing varieties of blue rainy mornings create, that no other day can. Sometimes it’s the thought that counts, especially when you get them to think with a more susceptible heart.
